Engineering with a purpose

Advanced Engineering is where students learn to be maritime, coastal or ocean engineer entrepreneurs. They will need to apply all the techniques learned in the Engineering I classes to work as a team to create green solutions products in multiple quantities(10-100). Students will have to apply systematic and automation techniques to overcome the challenges of building the same item multiple time.

Industrial engineering is an engineering profession that is concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations by developing, improving and implementing integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy and materials. Industrial engineers use specialized knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences, together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design, to specify, predict, and evaluate the results obtained from systems and processes. From these results, they are able to create new systems, processes or situations for the useful coordination of labour, materials and machines and also improve the quality and productivity of systems, physical or social. Depending on the sub-specialties involved, industrial engineering may also overlap with, operations research, systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, production engineering, management science, management engineering, financial engineering, ergonomics or human factors engineering, safety engineering, or others, depending on the viewpoint or motives of the user.

Engineering Terms

Sustainable (green) engineering is the design, commercialization, and use of processes and products that minimize pollution, promote sustainability, and protect human health without sacrificing economic viability and efficiency.

Marine engineering is the field of study that deals with the design, development, production and maintenance of the equipment used at sea and onboard sea vessels like boats, ships etc.

Naval Architect is a professional engineer who is responsible for the design, construction and repair of ships, boats, other marine vessels and offshore structures, both civil and military, including: Merchant ships - Oil/Gas Tankers, Cargo Ships, Cruise Liners, etc.

Ocean engineering deals with the application of design, construction, and maintenance principles and techniques to the ocean environment. Ocean engineering provides an important link between the other oceanographic disciplines such as marine biology, chemical and physical oceanography, and marine geology and geophysics.

Coastal engineering is a division of civil engineering responsible for the organization, conception, development and preservation of structures on the shoreline. The objectives of these tasks involve management of shoreline erosion; improvement of navigation channels and harbors; protection against flooding brought on by storms, tides and even seismically triggered waves (tsunamis); improvement of coastal recreation; and management of pollution in nearby marine environments.
