Makos Gauntlet

Engineering II and III students are accepting the challenge to redesign the old exercise course (behind the school) into an American Ninja Warrior “style” obstacle course. This is a huge project requiring it to be broken down into smaller projects. There are ten teams in total between 4th and 5th periods. Each team has been assigned to design a piece of the project.

Obstacles - Approximate total cost to build: $4,500

Flooring - Approximate total cost to build: $2,000

Electronics - Approximate total cost to build: $500

Total cost to build: $7,000

Estimated build time: 365 man-hours (7-9 weeks)

What we will offer


Quintuple Steps

To complete the quintuple steps, the challenger must jump from pad to pad in order to reach the end.

Approximate cost: $400

Estimated build time: 45 man-hours

Peg Board

To overcome the obstacle, the contestant will need to have a fair amount of upper body strength.

Approximate cost: $475

Estimated build time: 10 man-hours

Diamond Dash

Competitors must run up the steps, dash across the platforms, and make it to the other side without falling off the platforms.

Approximate cost: $500

Estimated build time: 40 man-hours



Cliffhanger

It is very similar to the peg board, except instead of holes it has wooden blocks to hang on to.

Estimated build time: 15 man-hours

Spider Jump

The Spider Jump consists of a platform where the contestant uses a small-square trampoline to jump into a gap between to plexiglass walls.

Approximate cost: $700

Estimated build time: 55 man-hours

Salmon Ladder

The obstacle is completed by the contestant using their momentum to lift the bar upwards through a set of rungs.

Dancing Stones

The Dancing Stones challenges one's balance by having a suspended pillar which the player has to jump across without falling. The pillars will have pads on top being approximately 14 inches in diameter. The sides will have springs causing it to tilt with movement making it more challenging.

Estimated build time: 40 man-hours

Start/Stop Timer

The course would have a start/stop button that reports to a centeral time server. Individual obstacles times can be tracked with the addition of more timers.

Leaderboard Website

A website will track the athlete's best time and instantly rank them.
